How to Delete Drop-down Search History in your Browser’s Address Bar

Is your browser’s address bar getting cluttered with a bunch of URL information no longer wanted or needed? Just to clarify, the address bar is the one, usually, way at the top of your browser window (if your settings have it exposed), that show you where you are in cyber-dom.

I like to type where I want to go right in the address bar – it’s much quicker for me than pulling down my list of favorites and I have it set on auto-fill. However, my husband and daughter have a cow if I start typing anything in their address bars. Seems they are overly finicky about what goes up there. I told them there’s a way to clear it out and I would blog about it. So here are the steps to clear history from your address bar for Firefox, Internet Explorer & Safari:

Mozilla Firefox

1. Go to the Tools menu.
2. Select Options > Privacy > History.
3. Click Clear. To completely disable the history function, set Remember visited pages for the last X days to zero (’0′).
4. Click OK to exit.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Go to the Tools menu.
2. Select Internet Options and the General tab.
3. Click the Clear History button. To completely disable the history function, set Days to keep pages in history to zero (’0′).
4. Click OK to exit.

Safari

1. Click History on the top menu.
2. Click Clear History at the bottom of the menu.
